Artist Statement
The concept I was working with was probably inspired by my previous project. I was interested in the concept of dreams from Salvador Dali's Persistence of Memory and so I wanted to keep exploring that nature. The idea behind my final project was simply entering one's own mind or somehow becoming lucid while dreaming. When we are left to simply think about ourselves what is it exactly that we see? I remember the famous quote by John Donne "No Man Is An Island Unto Himself" and so I wanted to rebuke that statement and say that while no one is ever truly alone, when they are left to explore their own consciousness then they are truly alone. My concept explores what one would see inside your own head; the choices you would have to make; the goals you would have set for your self. They are the unexplored dreams one might of had or the paths that could have been taken. The image is meant to represent the illusion of solitude felt by almost placing the character in an apocalyptic scenario: Alone in a city.
